How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day in a downturn year? People are cutting back on spending and discretionary income is not as abundant as last Valentine’s Day. That means that pouring lavish gifts on your sweetheart is not so easy. On the other hand, it is especially for the reason that people are feeling the crunch and may be a bit low, that your beloved may need a real “pick me up”.

You do not have to spend a fortune to be romantic, make the person feel special or say “I love you”.

Here are some inexpensive romantic ideas to tenderly express your love:

1.       Create an Atmosphere – Set the mood and tone for a romantic evening. Fill the room with candles, sprinkle some rose petals, blow up a few balloons and if you are lucky enough to have one, light a fire.

2.       Use your Literary Skills - Compose a romantic poem, and if you are musical, write a song

3.       Scrapbook - Create a scrapbook of the milestones in your relationship, of happy and exciting times together (this could be online or offline)

4.       Rely on Music – Burn your own CD of all your favorite romantic music or songs that remind you of that person

5.       A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words - Create a photo album or collage of places you have visited and moments together. This could be done online or burnt onto a CD with background music or the “old fashioned” way of beautifully filling a hardcover album or placed in an attractive frame

6.       Dinner for Two – Use your culinary skills to cook a romantic dinner for two. Play the music you burnt onto a CD.

7.       Turn to the Web – Dedicate and design a webpage of your love with about half a dozen free web-hosting tools on the net

8.       The Treasure Hunt – Design a treasure hunt. This could be at key locations around the city, or special places the two of you have been to together. Leave little notes or give pieces of paper with clues at each place with the final destination, a romantic look out point or other unique setting.

9.       Romantic Picnic – Take your loved one on a romantic picnic. This could be at the end of “The Treasure Hunt”, on the beach if you live near one, a lake or on top of a mountain.

10.   Give an Everlasting Gift – Buy them The Friendship Stone, an everlasting keepsake that says “I love you, I will be there forever”; “You can always count on me” and “You are the most unique and beautiful person”.

Remind your beloved that the best parts in life are not our monetary achievements or our two seconds of glory or fame but rather of the precious moments that we spend together. Make sure your lover knows they have your utmost support and this Valentine’s Day, take advantage to show your love, appreciation and gratitude.
